Gil Evans – Las Vegas Tango

A very cool piece from Evans’s 1964 album The Individualism of Gil Evans. It’s got that signature ’60s coolness, while the refrain seems almost majestic, like a jazz fanfare. Some solid, slightly muted solos from members of Evans’s big band, which for this album included people like Wayne Shorter and Elvin Jones. It has an almost Bond-y feel, although a bit cooler and less poppy. A dope track.
