Mark Ronson – Apply Some Pressure f. Paul Smith

This is one of the better tracks from Mark Ronson’s great 2007 album Version, which consists entirely of him rearranging popular songs as soul/funk tracks. A lot of the time, he gets a new singer to do the vocals, as well. This song, however, is the guy from Maximo Park doing a song by Maximo Park. The original is a tight, guitar-driven, typical mid-2000s alt-rock track. This version is, in my opinion, worlds better. It’s driven by the bass and the horns, and is given a very grandiose treatment with the strings and horns in the bridge. It retains the tempo of the original, keeping it fast and funky.
