Radiohead – Knives Out

One of my favorite tracks from Radiohead’s underrated Amnesiac, “Knives Out” is driven by Johnny Greenwood’s guitar over a simple, slightly jazzy (in a weird way, but when is that not the case with these guys,) drum part from Philip Selway. Thom Yorke’s melody is as haunting as can be expected, and the lyrics as despairing, without losing coherence or power, as he can sometimes do. The Michel Gondry-directed video (which Gondry says is autobiographical) is as weird and enthralling as could be expected from Gondry’s better work, mostly because it’s all done in one take with many set changes. Impressive both in terms of sound and vision.
