Hey, we’re back. Sorry for the couple-day pause in posts, but I was completely wiped out and slept from 6 PM Wednesday to 6 AM this morning. Anyway, my first comeback post is Das Racist’s best song (in my opinion), “Rainbow in the Dark.” It features both Heems and Kool A.D. at their lyrical best, and a beat that’s about as Das Racist as you could get. Half of the beat sounds like a SNES, while the other half sounds like an ’80s synthpop riff. Both dudes spit surreal and clever lyrics, showing us exactly why they pioneered hipster-hop and breathed some fresh air into the underground scene. The video is pretty nuts, with some heat-vision effects, shots of the dudes thrifting and doing other hip activities, and a very special shot of Dap on the toilet. Best line: “Like Don King playing Donkey Kong Country at his cousin’s house, you don’t even know what it’s about.” Because if I saw Don King playing Donkey Kong Country at his cousin’s house, I’d definitely be like, “What is this about?” And I don’t think anyone would have any idea.
