Gretchen Parlato – Flor de Lis

I don’t have the energy to write a whole blurb about this. The song is dope, and Gretchen takes it in a completely different direction from the Brazilian performers who’ve recorded it in the past. This is a great showing of how contemporary, complex jazz can intersect with pop music of any culture. Taylor Eigsti has a dope solo here on the piano, as does Gretchen herself, singing. Alan Hampton and Mark Guiliana hold it down on bass and drums, respectively.
