Under the Influence of Giants have one of the coolest names of a band I’ve heard in a while. “Mama’s Room” is a highlight of their self-titled 2006 debut. They broke up in 2008. The album is all stuff like this, disco-influenced pop, but some of it has a bit more of a hard edge which makes it interesting. At their best, such as this track, they get pretty groovy. At their worst, they’re boring and corny. But this track and a few more are definitely worth checking out. The video captures their essence as well – retro-tinged, flashy. Aside from the very unfortunate fashion choices of the drummer and singer, it’s a pretty cool watch. The CGI light-up stage is my favorite part.
