Haim – The Wire

Haim is one of the coolest new bands out. The band is made up of three sisters from LA: Este, Alana, and Danielle, ranging in age from 22 to 27. They play a really cool brand of rock music, reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac with more modern sensibilities and electronic influences – they’re guitar-based, but they usually include some 80s-sounding synths or percussion, and sometimes artificial beats. They won the BBC Sound of 2013 poll. I’ve really liked their other stuff but i’ve been unsure how versatile they could be, a worry that was put to rest by their new track, “The Wire.” It’s much more conventionally rock-sounding than their other stuff, but that doesn’t detract from the track at all- their songwriting is strong enough to support itself rather than relying on their style – not something that can be said about many bands today. Let’s hope that debut album arrives soon.
