David Bowie – Young Americans (Live on the Dick Cavett Show)

David Bowie is possibly the only man who could be considered the greatest single-person act in popular music history (Bob Dylan is the only other contender, I’d say.) This, the title track from his 1974 album, is one of his best. The lyrics are absolutely scathing, and his “plastic soul” sound is at its best. This video, which I saw first in the fantastic documentary¬†20 Feet from Stardom (in theaters now! See it!), features Bowie looking and playing his best, and a young Luther Vandross on backup vocals. Go buy all of David Bowie’s albums.
